Nathan Teeing Off

This is from back in 2007, but I can’t help but write about this and watch it over and over again.

This was Nathan’s very first time teeing off on a golf course. Sure, we’d been to the driving range before, but this was the big time. Hole number 1 on Glaze Meadow at Black Butte Ranch in Central Oregon. Nathan turned 6 years old on the day this was shot.

As you can see from the video, he takes two practice swings, just like I do, and then he smacks the ball straight down the middle of the fairway about 100 yards out. Perfect. He couldn’t have walked it out there and dropped it any better. Needless to say, I was incredibly proud of him. He’s been playing for almost 2 years now and is really good. Remarkably, he is incredibly patient when it comes to golf. He rarely gets upset and is willing to just keep trying and to keep hitting the ball.

Devyn, You Can Do It

Last night Devyn wanted to try riding her bike without her training wheels. We’ve been trying to teach her with a variety of methods for several months but the interest wasn’t there. “Don’t push her” I kept telling myself. Last week we were on vacation in Black Butte in Central Oregon and we rode all week but Devyn was on a tag-along bike attached to mine. I think all those miles we logged helped her get a better sense of balance because last night she hopped on her bike, said out loud “Devyn, you can do it. Devyn, you can do it” and she took off like a pro!
