Crocosmia

Crocosmia from Mike Wong on Vimeo.

These crocosmia flowers have been growing next to our driveway for years and by this time of the year, they hang over into the driveway so much that you can’t help but bump them. Doesn’t seem to hurt them though, but every time I do it, I stop and look at them again and each time I do, I think I like this flower more and more.

I don’t have a favorite flower, per se, but if I did, this might be it.

Anyway, the other night, I thought it would be fun to bring out my new Canon EF 135mm f/2L lens in the evening and take some photos of these flowers that Chris has been growing all these years. The one above is one of my favorites from the bunch, but I’m going to reshoot them because I think I could do it better. However, I wanted to post at least one photo as well as a very short video I did that demonstrates the beautiful bokeh you can get with this new lens. Here’s the video.

Nothing fancy. Just a fun depth-of-field experiment with my Canon 5D Mark II and my new Canon EF 135mm f/2L lens that I just bought.

Shot at 9:15 pm. ISO at 3200. Aperture priority mode set at f/2.

The music in the video is from Amelie: Original Soundtrack Recording
